Short trip to Malta

historical port of Malta

In the summer of 2000, a friend and I thought it would be nice to extend it a bit. The choice was Malta. So we went to Valletta, the capital of Malta, for a week in October.

Since I write these lines only now (2018), this is only a reproduction of my memory of this short trip. Likewise, the images are scanned from paper photos and therefore may not be of the quality one would expect today.

The city of Valletta is beautiful. One historical building after another and all over the island there are huge fortifications and harbors to discover. Here I can highly recommend a harbor tour. To get around the island, we used what looked like vintage buses.

The weather did not disappoint us and I remember that we also spent a day swimming on a small sandy beach. We also went to the neighboring island of Gozo where there are ancient temple ruins.

I also remember that food was quite expensive and that we had a bar/discotheque right across from our simple hotel, which entertained its guests with loud music for a very long time.

In the end, Malta is historically valuable and definitely worth a visit.
